Fiona is 2 Months and Fall 2019!

Fiona is 2 months old !!!!!

It has been a dynamic, fun, challenging and exciting month for our little Fiona...or "quesadilla" as Elliot things her nickname should be (we are still brainstorming).  Fiona kicked off her second month of life with a exciting excursion to the coast with the family!  We had a rental house picked out with hikes and beach adventures planned....until she developed a fever of 103.5 (!) and had to be admitted to the hospital for antibiotics and observation for 48 hours. :(   Fiona and Crystal were troopers through all of it while Dad, Andrea, Elliot and Weston made the best of it at the coast - even visiting Tillamook Cheese factory and finding anemones while tide-pooling.

Fiona ended up ok and it was a scare more than anything...but having your youngest child in the hospital at 5 weeks old is pretty nerve wracking.  During this month, Fiona began to be awake for longer and longer stretches during the day and LOVES looking at her siblings, Elliot in particular.  She developed a social smile at about 6 weeks old and can't help herself, breaking into huge grins whenever she sees anyone.  She is an eating champ and is still a bit on the urpy side, leading to frequent parent clothing changes through the day. She is getting better at sleeping and only wakes up a few times during the night and sometimes will sleep for a few hours in the swing during the day. She still HATES the car and car seat, screaming her little brains out whenever we put her in the car or in her car seat for a stroller ride.  OH well, I guess that will get better with time.

In other family events, Fiona joined her brother and sister at Elliot's farm party and LOVED listening to the bluegrass music and watching the animals.  We got to press apple cider and drink it right out of the collection bucket - a HUGE hit all around.  We also took a trip to an apple fest and managed to chase bubbles for a solid hour, launch apples from a gigantic slingshot and then buy 40 pounds of apples.  Crystal made apple sauce, apple butter, apple crisp, apples with peanut butter, apples in slices, apples with cinnamon..........

We went pumpkin picking / apple doughnut eating with the Lassiter's at a pumpkin-fest and while we didn't get any pumpkins, a blast was had by all on the hay maze, slides, bouncy pads and with LOTS of doughnuts.  We tried pumpkin picking again with Philippe and Carolyn, who were in town for a visit and after a brief downpour, actually got great weather for carving.  A zoo trip in the rain was similarly chaotic.

Dad bought an inflatable T. Rex costume on a random whim, a hug hit with Elliot, although Weston wasn't so sure.  A lot of talk about "dinosaurs coming" now from our middle child....maybe scarred him for life.

The big trip of the month was renting a camper trailer (Merriweather - either M. Lewis of Lewis/Clark - or - Merriweather of Flora/Fauna/Merriweather, the 3 good fairies charged with watching over Aurora / sleeping beauty) for a 4 day trip to Olympic national park.  Fiona was  trooper!  She slept very well for being out of home and enjoyed looking at the ocean, taking walks and even began to be awake more during the day and participate with the family.  We got to play on the beach, explore Kalaloch lodge and beach, hike around lake Quinault, make S'mores, enjoy a fire (with special additives to make it change color) and spend some quality family time together.  The camper was a hit!
