Settling in as a family of 5!

After getting home from the hospital, the next week is a bit of a blur.  Fiona was up every 1-2 hours as expected, to eat but at least she would go to sleep easily between episodes of nursing.  Elliot was the hardest, she NEVER wanted to be put down in those early days!  Fiona never really felt like a newborn.  She had great head control from the start, was bigger at 9 lbs and nursed immediately without help.

A few days after Grandma Weis left, Grandma and Grandpa Cook arrived.  We were able to go on a few adventures such as going to an outdoor concert but kept things low key around the house and keeping Elliot and Weston busy.  It was amazing to have the support of our parents again this delivery.  Now with a busy house with 2 other kids, there was definitely more of a divide and conquer mentality.

Elliot was so helpful offering to refill my water and get me and Fiona things.  She would hold Fiona any chance she got and wants to be where ever she is.  She also HATES when Fiona cries.  We are working with her to know that babies cry and its "there way of telling us they need something." But she finds it VERY stressful and starts crying herself sometimes.

Wes on the other hand....has fleeting interest in Fiona.  He is happy to "hold her toes and give her kisses." Then off to the next thing which is usually playing with magnatiles, trucks or cars.

While sleep hasn't been great, it could be worse too.

Fiona gave us a good scare at about 5 days old spitting up a bunch of blood.  We are still not exactly sure what happened or where it came from, but luckily it stopped on its own and has not come back.  Pretty scary though!

Mac got to stay home for 1 week after Fiona was born then back to the grind.  Luckily we also had help from our Au Pair, Andrea, after Grandma and Grandpa Cook left.

Elliot has now started Pre-K 4 days a week at ABC and is loving it.

Summer came and went too fast this year.  With the kitchen remodel, preparing for baby, pregnancy, having a newborn there was not nearly enough camping or hiking...we will need to make up for that next year!  Focusing on enjoying the rest of the late summer weather and planning some adventures during maternity leave and with baby Fiona.

Sleeping smiles!
