4 months!

What a month.  Highs and lows this month.

This was a HUGE month for Elli's development.  She is no longer a "newborn" she is officially an infant.  VERY playful and interactive.  You can just watch her brain working as she watches the world and learn new things.

About mid month she decided the world was much more interesting than her sleep!  As you'd try to be rocking (I mean bouncing) her to sleep she would have her eyes wide open.  Then you could follow her eyes to the window, or any glimpse of light that she would rather be looking at.  Around this time she hit the 4 month "sleep regression."  Apparently this comes at the same time they are rapidly developing and that "forth trimester" is ending.  Very true for Elli.  Within 2 weeks she rolled, started grabbing toys and passing them from hand to hand, talking back and forth with me and stopped sleeping!  We were both back to work at this point and Elli was getting up every 1-2 hours.  This was WAY worse than any sleep deprivation we had thus far!  In desperation we scoured the internet for suggestions and found the sleep suit a.k.a "space suit".  It looks ridiculous as you can see, but many this bad boy was MAGIC!  The first night she wore it she went from waking up every 1-2 hours to sleeping 12 hrs only waking up once!  Then next night she slept 10 hours straight!  Unfortunately that has only been one night, but since we got the "space suit" 2 weeks ago Elli has only been waking up 1 time during her 7 pm to 7 am sleep...we can not complain!

This is the first month that she can actually "play" with toys.  She likes her soft rattles, cloth books and stuffed animals.  I learned my lesson when I gave her a foam book to play with and she promptly slammed it in her face and started crying...oops.  Everything in her hands eventually ends up in her mouth these days.  She has even learned to put her WubbaNub pacifier back in her mouth!  This is a huge score for car rides.  She no longer screams bloody murder in the car!  We are not sure if this is her stage of development or that we sat the car seat up more now that she is older.  She even falls asleep in the car!

Its really fun to have conversations with her.  She waits for you to finish then responds in "her own words."  Her smile continues to be the light of our lives :)

She has rolled a few times each way.  Unfortunately we have never seen it!!!  The first time she rolled it was for Grandma Cook from back to front.  Apparently she scared herself and cried bloody murder.  The second time from back to front I had stepped out of the room for 2 seconds and found her on her belly with a very surprised face.  Then she rolled from her front to her back for our nanny.  More to come on this next month I am sure.

Elli is long and lean.  For weight she is only 18th percentile.  But for height and head she is about 80th percentile.
